The only thing that is constant in life is change
That’s what the CET paper keeps reminding me whenever I finish writing the paper.
So, how was the CET paper?
How much will I score?
Will I get into the B-school I am targeting?
That’s what most of you people will be asking and those are the questions I will try to answer for you
First, how was the paper, according to me?
CET Paper was unpredictable. It would have been a surprise for students who had expected a standard paper. But as we have been telling our students always, you can never predict a CET paper. This is not the only CET paper with surprises. There have always been such surprises in the past, and those who were prepared for the same should have done well. The paper was definitely tough and the cutoff should come down. Add to that one of the circular arrangement puzzles seemed wrong (Though it was actually right). So I am sure a lot of students would have wasted a lot of time on the puzzle questions.
So what was the paper like.
Lot of puzzles.
Tough reasoning and time consuming quant questions.
Lots of Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension questions.
How much will I score?
Think about how much you would attempt in other mocks. Compare the number of attempts and you could come to some figure.
We believe we have been able to give good experience through our mocks to all our students. There were quite a few Quoin Mocks where the cutoffs have been around 145 or below for JB. So we have tried to ensure students have got an experience of tough mocks. Also there were mocks where there were a lot of unusual questions. There were quite a few mocks where we have not followed a pattern of set of 5 questions. We have kept on reminding the students that CET is not predictable and to be prepared for the unexpected.
Will I get into the B-school I am targeting?
These could be the expected written cutoffs for various colleges
JBIMS 145
Sydenham 135
Somaiya/Welingkar 129
SIES/Dalmia 123
Xaviers/MET 118
Chetna/IES 113
Thakur/Lala 108
Rizvi/Agnel/Francis 104
The above are tentative cutoffs. Students getting below that may get in with a good score in GDPI.
The key is let go of what is over. Start refocusing on your goal and start preparing for GDPI. You must never give up till the last ball is bowled.
For GDPI preparation, you can do the following things
1. Read the newspaper regularly. Write down points that interest you in a book.
2. Rehearse points that you write.
It’s not what you know but what you say that matters. Rehearsing helps you to get confidence to state the point.
3. Practise GD in a group.
Just like you can’t learn swimming in a classroom, so also you can’t do well in GD unless you practise in a group.
All the best.
Keep watching for this space for more updates on Group Discussion and PI skills.
Quoin is holding a free GDPI session by students from JB on 9th April. We have had students who have scored 34/34 some of who could share their experiences. Visit www.quoinacademy.com. Do call 25394777 / 67120221 to register.
